    About Tresorit

Tresorit protects the files you never want leaked or lost. Work with your most sensitive documents without second thoughts. Stay in control – even when you share with coworkers, clients or vendors.

    • Tresorit is the most secure way to store and share files in the cloud. No Tresorit admin, hacker or government can access the data you store. Hacking just one file would take a lifetime.

Tresorit uses “end-to-end encryption” to guarantee the security of the uploaded file. Your files are encrypted before they leave your device and remain fully encrypted until they reach the recipient. Only you have the keys to open or share them.

Secure services are usually a pain to use, but Tresorit's ease of use has been praised by Forbes, PCWorld and thousands of users. Our ratings on all app stores rival those of Dropbox.

    • Tresorit's Headquarter is in Switzerland. User data is protected by Swiss privacy laws, which are stricter than those in the USA, and even in the European Union. Our R&D center is in Budapest, Hungary. Partner offices are located in the UK, the US, and around the world.

    • Tresorit servers are in highly secure, Microsoft Azure data centers in multiple countries in the EU, in Switzerland and North America.

    • If everyone on your team has a Business account, you can decide where Tresorit can be accessed from, control what your users store and limit sharing. You can suspend a coworker’s account at any time and see activity for your whole team.

    • Yes! Tresorit Professional is designed for individual users with best-in-class encryption & Swiss privacy. Store all your files securely, access them anywhere, and share with control. You can learn more and get started with Tresorit Professional here.

Tresorit's end-to-end encryption technology secures your files on your device using some of the highest grade encryption methods available. Your files can’t be decrypted in the cloud. This makes them safer than “safe”. No one else has the decryption key, not even Tresorit administrators. Only you and those who you share with have access.

    • Tresorit encrypts every file and relevant metadata on your devices with unique, randomly generated encryption keys. These keys are never stored in unencrypted form on the cloud. Accessing files is only possible with a user’s unique private decryption key.

    • Tresorit does not store your password, only a salted hash format, which we can authenticate you with. As Tresorit never has access to your password in unencrypted form, even if our servers were hacked, your account would be safe from harm.

    • Tresorit is HIPAA compliant and offers HIPAA BAA (Business Associate Agreements) addendums to Business and Enterprise customers.

Disaster proof and protected by 24/7 physical security, our datacenters are also compliant with HIPAA, ISO27001:2013 and a host of other certifications.

    • No, unless you explicitly choose to share the files with them.

Tresorit encrypts data before it leaves your device, so it’s not accessible even if someone has access to the corporate network. This ensures security even if the internal system is compromised.

    Working with Tresorit

Tresorit protects the files you never want leaked or lost. Work with your most sensitive documents without second thoughts. Use Tresorit to keep control – even when you share with coworkers, clients or vendors.

    • Tresorit is available on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS devices, and you can also access our service from any web browser.

    • Tresorit allows you to turn your local folders, and the files in them, into tresors – encrypted folders in the cloud. Changes to files are automatically synced between your local folder, and any devices on which you have installed Tresorit or where tresors are being shared. If you don't want to synchronize a folder to your device, you can also create 'cloud-only' tresors within the Tresorit applications, and upload folders or files into it.

    • You will receive notification of any changes on desktop devices

You can also open the Activity Wall of a tresor to see changes and, for a detailed audit trail export the Activity Wall history to a .csv file.

    • There are no accidental overwrites when two people modify the same file at the same time. Tresorit automatically detects the overlapping modifications and gives you the chance to review and resolve the conflict.

    • To access older versions of files, right click on the file in the Tresorit cloud browser and select See Versions. With Tresorit for Business an unlimited number of versions are stored and without impacting user storage limits.

Don't let Dropbox and others decide who can see your files. With end-to-end encryption you don't need to blindly trust your cloud provider. It would take 1000 years to break the encryption of Tresorit.

    • Dropbox, Box, Google Drive and others claim that data is “safe” with them, but they don’t protect your files the way we do.

They may encrypt your data but they have the encryption key and the files get decrypted on their servers every time they are accessed.

Their administrators can see your files, and so can anyone who manages to gain access to their systems. Learn more how Tresorit security compares to others on Tresorit Comparison Page.

    • Dropbox became popular years ago, when data security threats were not as prevalent as they are today. And when it comes to security, there are serious doubts about Dropbox.

Using Tresorit your files will be completely secure. End-to-end encryption means you hold the keys to your data. You have total control over shared documents.

Tresorit’s main difference compared to Dropbox, and other mainstream cloud storage services, is the ability to turn any folder on your device into a secure “tresor.” What this means is that you do not have to drag and drop files into a special sync folder. Instead, you can drag any folder from its existing location on your computer into the Tresorit app to “tresor it.” This is especially convenient if you’re digitally organized and you’d prefer not to rearrange your files into one sync-able folder.

    • Only a few providers offer client-side file encryption. The most popular is SpiderOak. But, SpiderOak has two main flaws:

      • It is universally hard to use. This is attested to by reviewers on major tech sites and app store reviews.
      • It cuts corners when it comes to security.

Additionally, SpiderOak is not zero-knowledge when used on mobile devices or a web-browser. By using so-called convergent cryptography, they sacrifice confidentiality to save storage space. Convergent algorithms enable Spider Oak to determine when your content matches the content of others in the cloud. This can leak valuable information about you to outside observers. Read more about how Tresorit compares to SpiderOak.

    • Services like Sookasa, Viivo, BoxCryptor and Ncrypted cloud have three main disadvantages when compared to Tresorit:

      • Your users need to use two different services for adequate security, which often leads to accidental mix-ups that reveal sensitive data – e.g. copying documents in or to the basic cloud storage folder instead of the encrypted one;
      • As complete encrypted folders need to be downloaded before a single file can be accessed, there’s no way to share securely with someone who doesn’t have exactly the same bolt-on encryption setup. For example, you can’t share a Viivo encrypted folder with someone using Boxcryptor, even if you both use Dropbox for storage, so someone will need to change providers if you want to share securely;
      • You need to pay for, and maintain, two services instead of one.

Tresorit encryption takes place in the background. There’s no margin of error, as users don’t have to lift a finger. It’s also easy to share files securely with others, even if they don’t use Tresorit.

    • Setting up encrypted email is tedious, and less tech-savvy users may struggle to set it up correctly.

      • Users need to download and install an app, create „public” and „private” encryption keys, then exchange the public ones with anyone they want to share files with.
      • Even after setup is complete, emails and attachments need to be manually encrypted, and decrypted, one by one. This quickly gets in the way of business.
      • It’s easy to get lost among different file versions and to waste hours updating a file someone else has already completed.

Once the Tresorit app is installed, the user can create an encrypted email attachment from any file on their computer – even if it’s not in a tresor. All the user has to do is right click the file (or a compressed file) that they wish to send as a secure attachment. Tresorit prepares the link – allowing users to set expiration date and download limits – and places it in the Link folder from where it can be fired off as an email attachment.

Users can also create end-to-end encrypted File Requests so that external parties are able to share sensitive files without being required to own a Tresorit subscription, securing the whole channel of data transmission.
