Zurich, 3 April 2024 – Tresorit, a data security specialist of Swiss Post Communication Services now offers EU qualified electronic signatures (QES) integrated into their end-to-end encrypted cloud environment. This allows users to conveniently electronically sign, share and securely archive documents with the highest level of security from anywhere, even across corporate boundaries. Organizations will automatically receive 10 electronic and 6 EU-qualified signatures to try out the latest add-on of Tresorit’s services.

Documents that are critically important for business must be signed in a way that ensures their legal validity, even in the digital realm. This is not only mandated by legal regulations such as the EU's eIDAS Regulation (on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market), but also driven by the increasing pace of workflows and collaboration processes that leave companies with little choice. The common practice of utilizing one tool to sign and another to share and another to store documents consumes unnecessary resources, hinders efficient collaboration, and can lead to security breaches.

To deliver a fully EU eIDAS-compliant QES, Tresorit has partnered with Evrotrust, a certified Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP). This way Tresorit provides a straightforward solution with the Tresorit eSign add-on for the Tresorit SecureCloud, enabling EU-wide accepted, legally secure electronic signatures.

"In 2023, we conducted a survey in collaboration with forsa, which revealed that 77 percent of respondents believe the importance of e-signatures in their companies will increase in the future, but only 44 percent currently use them. Tresorit eSign makes it particularly easy for those who want to close this gap. The add-on offers comprehensive functionalities related to electronic signatures combined with end-to-end encryption," says Peter Stössel, CRO of Tresorit.

Solve multiple business challenges with one solution

Tresorit eSign combines electronic signatures with a protected, encrypted cloud platform accessible to both employees and external parties – even for those who don’t have a Tresorit account. This allows the signature process to occur anytime and from anywhere. Important documents are not only stored throughout the entire signature process, but Tresorit eSign also facilitates document management. Individuals in charge can create differentiated access permissions, utilize detailed logs to comply with regulations, and monitor in real-time which documents have been signed, who rejected the signature, and where a signature is still pending.

Thanks to the combination with Tresorit's end-to-end encrypted cloud solution, all documents can be archived directly in a secure location, all without switching programs. Thus, the use ensures comprehensive data security and maximum user-friendliness.

eSign subscription made easy

eSign can be activated from within the Tresorit App. As an opportunity to try out the new functions around document signing, Organizations can use 6 QES and 10 electronic signatures for free. Additional signatures needed can be purchased in-App any time.

Background Information: Electronic Signatures According to the eIDAS Regulation

Electronic signatures aim to uniquely identify the sender, ensuring transparency and protecting the transmitted content from manipulation. In accordance with the eIDAS Implementation Act, Tresorit made the strategic decision to compliment the already existing electronic signature capabilities with the highest legal effect available throughout all EU countries with a qualified electronic signature.

The qualified electronic signature is the most secure variant, commonly used where confidentiality, compliance and the highest legal standards are of particular importance. That makes it the best choice in complex or high-risk agreements, such as Intellectual Property documents, legal, supply chain and employee contracts, partnership and other financial agreements and many more. Through elaborate procedures, the QES not only verifies the identity of the sender but also ensures the integrity of the transmitted content. This type of signature is considered equivalent to a handwritten signature throughout all EU member states.

Combined with Tresorit's end-to-end encrypted Zero-Knowledge platform and rigorous controls layered on top, the qualified electronic signature ensures comprehensive security, guaranteeing the authenticity and integrity of documents. Critical business files remain confidential at all times, as Zero-Knowledge end-to-end encryption prevents bad actors, and even Tresorit and its partner Evrotrust from viewing the files.
