Next milestone in our history: Tresorit’s majority of stakes acquired by Swiss Post to join forces for privacy-first digital transformation
When we founded Tresorit exactly 10 years ago, we envisioned a world where digital privacy is a by default setting, information is protected, and people are in full control of their own data. We have been working eagerly towards this goal and while there is still a long way to go to, we feel that in the past decade the world has changed a lot: privacy awareness has grown significantly, regulations are promoting privacy by design principles and end-to-end encryption is on its way to become a mainstream way to handle data. Together with our superb team and community, we at Tresorit are proud to be part of this global change and are excited to announce a brand new chapter in our journey that would help us further work towards our mission and grow even stronger.
Effective July 6, Swiss Post acquired a majority stake of Tresorit. With Swiss Post, we are proud to have found a partner who shares our values on digital privacy and security. We are convinced that this collaboration strengthens both companies and opens up new opportunities for us and our customers.
Why Swiss Post?
As a globally trusted company, Swiss Post is active in 25 countries, employs more than 54,000 people worldwide and generated a turnover of over CHF 7 billion in 2020. In 2020, the Universal Postal Union, a United Nations agency named the company the "best postal operator in the world" for the fourth time in a row.
Protecting the secrecy of letters for more than 170 years, Swiss Post aims to do the same in the online space and digitalize everyday services for people and businesses. Similarly to us, they are convinced that privacy and security are key to digital transformation and our cooperation is built on this shared belief
To achieve their goal, Swiss Post Communication Services already offers a broad portfolio of digital services such as e-governmental, e-health and ePost and an encrypted e-mail. After 10 successful years of protecting the privacy of more than 10.000 organizations and way more individual users, we are thrilled to become part of a growing digital ecosystem of privacy-focused products built by a trustworthy brand like Swiss Post.
What will change for our customers?
In general, not much. We are keeping our Tresorit brand and our service will continue as usual. We are also maintaining our current management team including our founders as shareholders. Tresorit will be an independent entity within the Swiss Post group. This means that neither the user experience, nor our current service will be affected. All existing contracts remains in force.
What’s next for Tresorit?
The acquisition will strengthen us to further expand our presence in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. We also continue to serve our global regions of EU countries, the UK and the US. Operating under Swiss data protection legislation since the early days, our state-of-the art technology will contribute to expanding Swiss Post’s existing digital product portfolio. As part of Swiss Post, we’re excited to continue to develop privacy-focused, end-to-end encrypted productivity and workspace tools that enable individuals and businesses work easily and securely knowing that their valuable data is safe from any third-party access. Here’s to many more 10 years of working towards our mission!
